Superman vs. Robin

The wind slicked back Robin’s hair as he recklessly raced through the streets of Gotham. His motorcycle polluting the starry night with noise as desperation forced sweat to seep down his face. The salty liquid burned his eyes and clouded his vision, but Robin continued to push the limits of his ride. There was nothing he could do, and he knew it and then he saw a brilliant light in the distance. A star of such splendor that he drove towards it with a fanatical religious devotion.

Superman emerged. Aware of an increasingly bright light awakening in the distance, he soared after Robin, effortlessly catching him. He felt Robin’s desperation too and pitied him for it. Superman began his dissent to end this trial and then he stopped. He realized that whatever driving force was consuming his mind and making him end this innocent man’s life had no real control over him. He was above this tournament, above this game. The now blindingly light stirred him from his inner-struggle though and suddenly the struggle was outward.

A brilliant green aura illuminated Gotham city and Robin saw the red champion fall from the sky. Moment’s later the Kryptonite meteor struck and leveled the building next to the Man of Steel. The aftershock was enough to jar Robin from his bike as he began a death slide towards that very same building. The road licked against Robin’s jacket threatening to melt it against his arm, but when he finally came to a stop he didn’t need to worry about the use of his arm. Robin rose from under his bike, his right arm dangling broken at his side and saw only a few meters away from him the man himself, Superman. The intense green light was all around them and Robin could see that Superman was clearly in devastating pain. Robin clumsily reached across his body and lifted his gun from its holster with his left hand. Amongst the screaming people of the now crippled building burning near, the shot that ended Superman’s life could barely be heard.
