Robin stands over Superman’s lifeless body in awe and wonder. Phoenix flies away and yet feels herself to be motionless. Luke slinks away and refocuses. Robocop feels the pain slip away. Iron Man spins uncontrollably, yet is stationary. Predator stares without comprehension. Thing let’s Captain America fall to the earth. Batman revisits the night’s events. Spiderman awakens in horror. Wolverine can’t taste the smoke on his lips. The Terminator and T-1000 reboot, awaiting their next assignment. Wonder Woman touches down. Hulk feels calm.

The link severs. The heroes awaken. They all truly awaken and as their eyes adjust to the dim green lights illuminating the room they see each other. They see those that fell before them and others both familiar and unknown. They confused and overwhelmed by what they have seen and experienced, but just as suddenly their vision fades and their minds begin to slip away…

“They are awake. We should go.”

The next time they awaken there is nothing to see. There’s no memory of what they saw. There is just a great blackness and a furious pulse deep within the very inner fabric of their souls. They are alive. They are alone.

“Let the games begin.”
