About the Tournaments

  • Who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman?
  • Which Ninja Turtle is the strongest?
  • Which Jedi for that matter?
  • Could Splinter stand a chance against Yoda?

That’s the premise behind the Tournament of Champions. Matching up the best of the best from all the different worlds and genres that exist in the comic, television, movie and gaming worlds and pitting them against each other in single elimination combat. Writing the stories that we desperately want to read, but haven’t been written.

How does the Process work?

In the 1st tournament we (the authors)  picked the starting brackets. This time we’re asking you to do it. As a result, we’ll start things off with a good old fashion popularity contest to determine the 32 combatants that will enter the 2nd Tournament.

However, once the tournament is under way, the rules change a little. Votes are put up for the different pairings, but popular vote doesn’t necessarily win. The winner is decided by a random roll in the range of the percentage of the vote. Of course, highest roll wins.

For Example:

Spiderman gets 35 Votes and He-Man gets 24 Votes. This means:

  • Spiderman has 59% of the votes.
  • He-Man has 41% of the votes.

So, a random number generator does a roll between 1 and 59 for Spiderman. We’ll say that it results in a 32. Another random number is generated between 1 and 41 for He-Man. We’ll say it’s a 37. The result is that while Spiderman had the popular vote, He-Man ends up actually winning (which is part of the fun and anticipation of waiting for the story to be released).

The Result

Things can get pretty crazy. Our 1st Tournament saw such upsets as Robocop beating Magneto and Robin beating Superman. Suffice to say, your vote always counts be it to improve the favourite’s “guaranteed” victory or to give the unsung hero a real fighting chance against impossible odds.
